Positive Behaviour Support

At Perfectly Imperfect, our Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) approach is built on the belief that all behaviours are a form of communication, and that understanding comes before intervention. We practice Neurodiversity-Affirming Positive Behaviour Support (NAPBS), an inclusive model that celebrates neurological differences and rejects the idea that neurodivergence is something to be “fixed.”

What is Neurodiversity-Affirming PBS?

NAPBS recognises that people experience the world in beautifully diverse ways. Whether someone is autistic, ADHD, dyslexic, or has another neurodivergent profile, our focus is always on support, not suppression.

How We Assess & Implement PBS at Perfectly Imperfect

Traditional PBS often involves a therapist observing behaviours in person. The problem? Most people don’t behave naturally when they know they’re being watched—a phenomenon known as the Hawthorne Effect. This can lead to incomplete data, forced triggers, and wasted funding.

1.

Understanding & Respecting Neurodiversity:

We embrace different ways of thinking, learning, and communicating. Every person brings unique strengths and perspectives.

2.

Strengths-Based Support:

Instead of focusing on “problems,” we build on existing abilities. This boosts confidence, self-worth, and belonging.

3.

Person-Centred Planning:

Support is guided by the person and their goals, not someone else’s idea of success. Families, carers, and other key people are part of the journey.

4.

Individualised Supports:

No cookie-cutter solutions here. We tailor strategies to suit each individual’s sensory needs, communication style, tolerance, and environment.

5.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

We promote flexible, inclusive environments that accommodate different learning and engagement styles, especially in school settings.

6.

Advocacy & Self-Advocacy:

We help individuals and families speak up and express their needs clearly and confidently.

Therapeutic Supports

At Perfectly Imperfect, we believe in meeting each person where they are—without judgment, without pressure, and without trying to “fix” who they are. Our neurodiversity-affirming therapeutic supports are grounded in acceptance, compassion, and lived experience.

We offer:

  • Individual Counselling – A safe space to explore identity, emotional regulation, burnout, and everyday life challenges.
  • Family & Couples Therapy – Support for navigating relationships, communication, and connection within diverse family dynamics.
  • Tailored Support for Neurodivergent Individuals – Practical strategies and empathetic guidance for managing stress, relationships, and life transitions.

Our approach is rooted in respect and client-led practice. We work within NDIS therapeutic support frameworks while staying committed to affirming and inclusive care—no pathologising, just real support that meets your needs.

NDIS Advocacy

Navigating the NDIS can feel daunting—but you don’t have to do it alone. At Perfectly Imperfect, we believe that everyone has the right to be heard, respected, and supported through every step of the process.

Our NDIS advocacy services are here to:

  • Help you prepare for plan meetings and reviews.
  • Assist with understanding your rights and options.
  • Support you in requesting changes or challenging decisions.
  • Walk beside you in advocating for what you need.

Our approach is collaborative, trauma-informed, and neurodiversity-affirming. We’re here to support—not to battle. Advocacy should feel like having someone in your corner, not another challenge to overcome.

Our App: A Free Resource

We’re always looking for ways to make accessing support easier, more flexible, and more in tune with real life. Our custom-built Positive Behaviour Tracker App is designed to do exactly that.

Positive Behaviour Tracker

Our Positive Behaviour Tracker App allows families to record, document, and upload moments of distress or challenging behaviour as they happen—right from their own environment.

Instead of relying on memory or staged appointments, this tool helps us gather authentic information that truly reflects your child’s experience. It’s fast, secure, and designed to reduce stress on both you and your loved one.

What the app does:

Record videos of behaviours in real time

Add notes about context, triggers, and aftermath

Securely upload data for your clinician to review

Track behavioural patterns and progress over time

Reduce the need for in-home observation sessions
